Hello everybody!

This is an announcement that I will be moving my blog to a new home. You can find it on my website [www.junlikato.com] under “Blog.” Its basically the same blog with the same posts, just a new location ๐Ÿ™‚ I won’t be closing this one quite yet, so if you would like to still follow me, make sure to follow the new one on my website.

Hope everyone’s tuesday has been good so far~

New work in progress. Seems like I’ve got a bunch of projects that need to be posted soon!

Here’s another sneak peak at one of the designs ๐Ÿ˜‰

A project done this past spring. Hopefully I can get the photos up soon this summer ๐Ÿ˜‰ Here’s a sneak peak of the project~

Hello peeps!

So I’ve been working on a lot of projects and sadly just haven’t been keeping up with the posts on a regular basis.

Today I want to share a packaging project I did a few months ago. This company is called “aeffects.”

2013-12-06 15.37.55

This project was designing for a cause. Think Tom’s and their One for One campaign: “With every product you purchase, TOMS will help a person in need.ย One for One.”ย So aeffects is a company that redirects part of its proceeds (40%) towards the fight against animal abuse and neglect.

I thought it’d be interesting to approach this in a more graphical sense- literally graphic. And instead of having such an overdone serious tone to it, I thought that making it a little more “fun” and “playful” would jazz it up (even though the graphics themselves are anything BUT fun and playful-which I do love the contrast of it).

This packaging, however, isn’t just for one item but a pack. This pack includes sunglass, shoes, t-shirt, and a banner.

I’m planning to submit this piece toย The 5th Annual The Dieline Awards. What are you thoughts? Should I submit it?

I haven’t posted this on behance yet, but I’ll update this post with the link once its up to see more info on the project.

Till then, Take care y’all!

Hello everybody!

Its time for another post of my most recent projects! Today I will be sharing the wrapping paper I designed for the imaginary company Wrap Happy (which I also invented :P)

To start things off, let me tell you a little about the company. Wrap Happy is a gift wrap company that focuses on the emotional aspect of gift-giving and receiving gifts. The emotions that prompt us to give gifts are displayed and illustrated through these papers. People give all sorts of gifts, from birthdays and holidays to the simple “just because” gift. I designed four different lines of paper for Wrap Happy but kept with a common style of illustrations and limited color palette to tie them all together. Since my project only required to make four different papers, I did mine on some basic themes such as love/romance, friendship, the winter holidays, and an everyday multipurpose wrapping paper.

I also had to create the packaging that the rolls of paper came in if someone wanted to buy them as a set. My original idea for the packaging was SO different from the actual outcome, due to my inability to find the right materials… So that evolved into another idea…which then was changed into ANOTHER idea because the measurements of the board I got was off. So basically, I had lots of trouble with the packaging but it didn’t end up too bad, considering how last minute I put the whole thing together (please don’t pay attention to the horrible craft quality! >__<)

You can also see more info and pictures of this project on my behance portfolio >>>> HEEERE

I hope you guys enjoyed this project and I’ll talk to you soon!

I have decided that I should share more of my work on my blog, including any small project, practice, or process. Today I was playing with abstract photography. I did these for practice and based on basic principles of design such as composition, color, movement, and etc. I also just wanted to create something interesting and curious.

Hey everyone,

So these are the final results of my self-portrait magazine article for the word “silly.”

I apologize for the low resolution photos but for some strange reason when I converted them into jpegs the colors got disfigured… =/ย  Anyway, I wanted to share my ending results on this project. 3 logo designs will be coming soon ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today’s post is a little bit random, but I always find those to be fun. I have a fascination with pop-ups. You definitely have to have skill to create them and its actually a lot of work (trust me, I’ve done it) so when I see insane designs it blows my mind. I found this insane video on ABC3D Alphabet Pop-up book that is incredibly creative, well crafted, and clever design. The ideas are somewhat simple yet the execution of them are far from that! “ABC3D is an innovative and exciting new alphabet pop-up book by French designer, Marion Bataille.”

Some screen shots:

Definitely check out the video, its so much more impacting watching it in action than these pictures.

This one isn’t really a pop-up but I thought it was neat as well as this next one ๐Ÿ™‚

I was going to share some other neat art other than paper/pop-ups which is why I initally said this post would be random, but I think the pop-ups alone is enough for today ๐Ÿ™‚

What are some of your favoriteย  paper/pop-up art?

Hey everyone!

I know I haven’t been posting much of my own work up so I’m going to show you what I have been working on for the past month in my design class (I know- a month?? That’s way too long).

The assignment was to create a magazine spread on ourselves (so in a way, its a self-portrait). We had to design three different designs based on three different words that describes us, good or bad. After we critiqued them we helped each other decide which one to make two more spreads with based on that spread’s elements and word. For instance, the one I’m expanding on is based on the word “Silly.”

Because this one was selected for my final pieces I have to make two more spreads to complete the make-believe article on myself (sounds like I’m repeating myself a lot, sorry >.<)

So far this is what I have come up with for my second spread (in progress):

And I haven’t started on the third one yet, but I am definitely starting that this weekend. Before you comment on the “header” of this page, all of the text is placement/dummy text, including the header (hence the reason it says “header” haha). There is no way I would be able to create an entire article on myself- how awkward is that!

This is another spread based on the word “directed.” It has a completely different feel than the one above because my interpretation of the word “directed” means someone who knows what they want and where they are going, straight forward, and bold. It also plays with the motion of “direction” and creates a specific movement from point A (top left corner) to point B (“GOAL”) signifying a journey or road. Its still in progress though (the black squares could use some adjustments).

AAAAnd….my third one is still in “remodeling” mode which becomes slightly ironic because the word that it is based on is “indecisive.” I think what is going to end up happening is me turning in a design I’m unsure about which makes it all the more hilarious and frustrating at the same time. It all makes sense why that word describes me. >ย  orz

As for my box project, I should be finishing that this weekend or early next week (because it is due next wednesday) so I’ll post that up as soon as I can. I can’t wait to tell you all what I have planned for my next sculptural assignment which is based on belief.

Until then, Have a great weekend!
